Curtain rises for ‘Hello, Dolly!’ at Cottonwood Shores theater

FROM STAFF REPORTS

COTTONWOOD SHORES — With the opening of “Hello, Dolly!” coming up July 17, the Hill Country Community Theatre actors and volunteers are putting the final touches on the romping musical.

The event kicks off with a big opening night and runs through July 27.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $9 for children and students. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2:15 p.m. Sunday. The shows are all at the Hill Country Community Theatre, 4003 FM 2147.

Tickets may be purchased at www.thehcct.org or by calling the box office at (830) 798-8944.

“Hello, Dolly!” is a fun, high-spirited musical comedy centered around a matchmaking, but sometimes meddling, Dolly Levi Gallagher. It’s set in the late 1800s, so the audience can expect lots of period costumes along with the great music, dancing and acting.

The musical wraps up the 2013-2014 season, but the theater already has announced the lineup for the 2014-2015 season. Leading off is “The Hallelujah Girls” written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. This is the same team of writers who penned “The Dixie Swim Club.” It’s a comedy centered on the women of Eden Falls, Ga., who decide to shake up their lives.

Auditions for the play are 7 p.m. July 21 and 22 at the theater. Rehearsals begin July 28 with performances running Sept. 18-28.

Other performances for the new season include “A Christmas Carol” on Dec. 4-14; “Zombies from The Beyond” on Feb. 19-March 1, 2015; Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” on April 23-May 3, 2015; and “Seussical the Musical” on July 16-26, 2015.

Each performance will require a cadre of volunteer actors and stagehands. The Hill Country Community Theatre is a nonprofit theater that depends on the support of the community, whether through financial donations, ticket sales or volunteers. The theater has lots of volunteer opportunities — both on stage and behind the scenes.
