OBITUARY: Roger Lewis Karl, 72, of Kingsland dies July 11, 2014

Roger Lewis Karl, 72, of Kingsland passed away July 11, 2014, in Austin. He was born Nov. 2, 1941, to Chester Karl and Mae (Williams) Karl in Mills County, Texas.
Roger retired from the U.S. Air Force with more than 20 years of service to his country. He worked with the Disaster Preparedness office for 14 years and served as an administrative specialist for eight years.
Roger received numerous medals and honors throughout his military career including the Air Force Commendation Medal with three bronze oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one silver and one bronze oak leaf cluster, the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with one bronze star, the NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Longevity Service Award with four bronze oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Medal, the Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with one bronze oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Training Ribbon, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Ribbon with one bronze oak leaf cluster and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Roger was a resident of Kingsland since 2005 having moved there from Arizona. On June 6, 2008, he married Florene Rhodes in Kingsland. He was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans in Kingsland, a member of the American Legion and a very active member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Florene (Rhodes) Karl of Kingsland; sons, Benjamin Karl and wife Denise of Cuba, Mo., and Matthew Karl of Fort Worth; daughters, Lisa Broccard of St. James, Mo., Ginger Collins-Justus and husband Steve of Fenton, Mo., Diana Dittmar of Greeley, Colo., Donna Phillips and husband David of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Janet Chase and husband Troy of Greeley, Colo., and Kerry Karl of Fort Worth; and stepdaughter, Mary Arthur and husband Fred of Lubbock.
Roger is also survived by brothers, Mike and wife Evelyn of Throckmorton and David and wife Annie Monk of Round Rock; sisters, Kathy and husband Jim Bob Wadkins of Marble Falls, Debbie Davis and husband Gabby of Throckmorton and Linda Cook of Llano; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
