Clarence McDaniel Sr., 83, of Kingsland, Texas, was called home June 28, 2014, in Round Rock.

Clarence was born Jan. 25, 1931, in Mansfield, Texas, to C.A. and Clarice Robinson McDaniel.

He graduated from Blossom High School in 1948 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He later went on to earn a degree in education from East Texas State University and a master’s degree in education from Sul Ross University.

On May 30, 1956, in Barstow, Texas, Clarence married Jewell Petty. The couple welcomed their only child, a son, Clarence McDaniel Jr., into the world on June 28, 1959, in Pecos, Texas.

Clarence found a career in education. He began as a coach and a teacher. By the time he retired, he had worked as a coach, a teacher, a director, a principal and a superintendent. His career took the McDaniel family to many small school districts across the state of Texas.

Clarence and Jewel retired in Rio Vista, Texas, and lived there 23 years. Clarence moved to Kingsland to be closer to his son and his family in 2005. Since then, he had been a very happy resident of the Windchime Assisted Living Facility.

Clarence loved being an educator. He was a history buff and an avid movie collector. He also enjoyed traveling. His son and his son’s family were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his son, Clarence McDaniel Jr.; daughter-in-law, Elaine McDaniel; and granddaughters, Clarissa and Beth McDaniel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell McDaniel.

Visitation is 5:30-6:30 p.m. July 1 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300, with a short memorial service officiated by Jeff Davis to immediately follow.
