Mamie Inez Holbrook, 81, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away June 23, 2014. She was born to Luther Everet and Thelma Irene (Reneau) Sloan in Phelps, Texas, on Nov. 1, 1932.

Mrs. Holbrook was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, for which she was the unit chaplain for two years. She also participated in the Oak House Ministries for special-needs kids. She worked various jobs in hotel/motel management, volunteered at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Kerrville, was a cab driver and was very active in the Cross and Spurs Cowboy Church in Lake Buchanan. She enjoyed knitting and needlepoint as hobbies and was known as the “Git ‘er Done” lady.

She is survived by her three children, John E. Holbrook of Granite Shoals, Burl L. Holbrook and wife Martha of Houston and Ladonna Russell and husband Ben of Kingsland; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; foster children, Ronnie and Jana Reynolds of Forney, Eddie and Kathy Moore of Glen Rose, Steve Dunn of Kingsland and Elizabeth “Betty” Hale of Marble Falls; and sisters Thelma Ladean Herrera of Kingsland and Ouida Robertson of Llano. Numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and a host of church family and friends also survive.

Mamie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Herbert Leon Holbrook; brother, Luther Sloan; and sister Sue Ella Woodard.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. June 26 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-000.  A funeral service is 10 a.m. June 27 at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Barington officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park on Park Road 4 in Burnet.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Herrera, Roy Moreno, Clint Pemberton, Buddy Bird, Greg North and Alan Wagner. Larry Ligon, Mike Mauer and Tracy McGuire will act as honorary pallbearers.
