Lyle grew up in Marble Falls with fond memories of playing football, working at various service stations and working livestock with his father, grandfathers, uncles and cousins. Lyle’s dream was to someday return to Marble Falls to raise cattle. He was blessed to be able to spend the last seven years ranching at Double Horn and Round Mountain.
Lyle graduated from Marble Falls High School in 1962. He attended Tarleton State College and graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) with a degree in agribusiness. After college, he served in the Army National Guard.
Lyle spent 13 years working as a national bank examiner in the Dallas, San Antonio, Wichita Falls and Houston areas. His banking career began in 1979 at the San Felipe National Bank in Houston, where he served as vice president, president, CEO and chairman of the board. He later became senior vice president of oil and gas lending at Bank of America, retiring from there in 2006. Lyle helped organize the Marble Falls National Bank in 1979 and was on the board of directors until 1986.
While in Houston, Lyle served as president of the Village West Home Owners Association, deacon at Second Baptist Church, president of the Second Baptist School Board and president of the Second Baptist School Athletic Booster Club.
Lyle enjoyed years of coaching his sons in soccer and baseball at St. Cyril’s, Memorial Ashford Little League and Second Baptist Church. He loved hunting and fishing, especially when sharing that time with his family and friends.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Cathy of Marble Falls, and sons, Brett Heffington of Marble Falls and Reese Heffington of Austin.
