OBITUARY: Matthew Lansford Cowey, 30, of Nixon dies June 15, 2014
Matthew Lansford Cowey was born March 27, 1984, in Brenham, Texas. He departed this life and was promoted to heaven June 15, 2014.
Matthew was a resident of Nixon, Texas. He graduated from Bullard High School in Bullard.
He loved all sports, particularly football and especially the Texas Longhorns. His greatest hobby was hunting of any kind, and he loved the outdoors and all activities related to his family’s ranch.
Matthew was preceded in death by his two grandfathers, Buddy Cowey of Nixon and Johnny Melton of Burnet; uncle Willie Melton; and aunt Hazel Melton.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Rogers Cowey of Nixon; parents, Lanny and Dorothy Cowey of Burnet; brothers, Jason Cowey and wife Tinnifer of Liberty Hill, Stevan Swope and wife Dory of Canton, Ohio, and Cody Swope and wife Deanna of Allen. Matthew was an uncle to five nieces and nephews: Jameson Cowey, Trinity Cowey, Jaxon Cowey, Grayson Swope and Alayna Swope. He also is survived by his two grandmothers, Katherine Cowey of Nixon and Stella Melton of Burnet; uncles and aunts Mike and Jayme Cowey of Nixon, Tommy and Laurie Melton of Kingsland, Johnny and Sandy Melton of Aransas Pass, Pete and Cindy Melton of Olney, Stella and John Whitmire of Cameron and Billy and Becky Melton of Runaway Bay; as well as numerous cousins.
A funeral service is June 20 at First Baptist Church of Burnet with interment following at Post Mountain Cemetery in Burnet.
