Copperas Cove man dies in motorcycle, SUV accident

OAKALLA — A Copperas Cove man is dead after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a Chevrolet Suburban just before midnight June 16 one mile north of Oakalla on FM 2657, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety report.

The accident happened about 11:30 p.m. that evening just off the intersection of CR 220.

A 2005 Chevrolet Suburban pulled onto FM 2657 from the county road and collided with a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling north and ridden by 48-year-old Raymond Hidalgo of Copperas Cove, according to the report.

“The Suburban failed to yield the right-of-way, turning left onto 2657 right in front of the motorcyle,” a DPS spokeman said in the report. “The motorcycle hit the back-left quarter of the Suburban, resulting in major damage to (the motorcycle) and the driver of the motorcycle.”

Hidalgo was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:11 a.m. June 17 by Burnet County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Lisa Whitehead.

There was no report of injury for the SUV driver, who is from Briggs.
