Wesley “Porky” Franks of Tow, Texas, passed away peacefully June 3, 2014, at the age of 71. He was born July 30, 1942, to Russell and Violet Franks in San Angelo.

He grew up in Sonora, helping work the family ranch during his high school years.

Wesley served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967 in the 2nd Armored Division “Hell on Wheels.” He was honorably discharged.

He worked in the oil fields around Sonora, Midland, Odessa and Iraan. Later, he became a professional in rock masonry and construction.

Wesley enjoyed in his spare time fishing for the big cats to back up his stories. He delivered Meals on Wheels for the senior center in Llano.

Wesley enjoyed his weekly poker games and his good buddies, harassing his friends at the Paradise Point Café.

His two main loves were his little dogs, Bubba and Spotted dog. His greatest asset was to always help a friend in need.

Dad met his challenges with a saying that rings true even now: “It’s just one of those things.”

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his two daughters, Jamie Lynn Alexander and husband Russell Alexander of Tow and Gayla Thane and husband Joseph Thane of New Braunfels; brothers, Andy Franks and Jamie Glasscock, both of San Angelo; sister, Virgie Burke of Del Rio; five grandchildren, Brandon Graham, Tara Thane, Ember Thane, Katie Thane and Stetson Alexander; and great-grandchild, Addison Metz.

A memorial service is 1 p.m. June 6 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300, with Jerald Moore officiating.

Special thanks to Llano Scott & White Hospice and hospital for their compassion and exceptional care. God bless you!
