Delton Brooks Ross, 79, of Buchanan Dam, Texas, passed away May 26, 2014. He was born to L.D. and Myrtle (Davis) Ross in Travis County, Texas, on April 10, 1935.

Mr. Ross proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Korean conflict. He married to Melba Joan Martin on July 1, 1953, and was the father of a daughter, Susan Collier, and two sons, Steve and Scott Ross.

He was a police officer for the City of Austin and spent 30 years with the Texas Highway Department’s Motor Vehicle Division when he retired in 1993. He raised his children in Amarillo until he retired and moved to Lake Buchanan.

He will be remembered for raising three Christian children and living with an intense love for Christ. He was a big-hearted, people-oriented person who never met a stranger, served as a deacon at his church and was always trying to help others.

Delton is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter Susan Collier and husband Garland; sons, Steve Ross and wife Deanna and Scott Ross and wife Starla; grandchildren, Kris White, Amy Weatherford, Jamie Houston, Matt Ross, Niki Ross, Daniel Ross and Jonathan Ross; great-grandchildren, Nate Houston, Kelsy, Cody and Ashton White, and Alex, William and Myles Weatherford.

A funeral service is 2 p.m. May 29 at the Chapel of the Hills in Buchanan Dam. A private burial will follow.
