Shirley Mae Howell was born Jan. 1, 1928, and passed peacefully April 18, 2014.

She married Clayton Clark Howell Jr. on July 1, 1947.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bertie Mae Dudley Mayes; father, James Jackson Mayes, sister Jaqulyn Lee Mayes Browning; and grandson Jeffrey Marcus Laney.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Clayton Howell; daughters, Connie Mae Howell Heller and Kellie Mayes Howell Laney; grandchildren Stacey Holliday, Deedee Mae Denby, Bertie Diane Denby, Kimberly Rochelle Laney Tonkin, S. Gregory Laney; great-grandchildren, Kaleb Jeffrey Johnson, Saylar Clayton Denby, John Ayers, Taylor Bryan Johnson, Laney Elizabeth Tonkin, Brantley James Laney, Bradley Clayton Laney; and niece Kari Lee Browning.

Shirley was a member of Spicewood Baptist Church in Spicewood. She grew up in the northwest part of Houston, graduated from Reagan High school and was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. Growing up, she enjoyed riding her horse Joe, sorority life, drawing and dancing. Throughout her life, she enjoyed her family, reading, history, genealogy, sewing and going to the movies. She was an

exceptional seamstress and enjoyed making dresses for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved making hand-made crafts and selling them at craft shows.

She was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation is April 22 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373. A funeral service is 11 a.m. April 23 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park near Burnet. A reception will follow at Spicewood Beach Recreation Hall, 207 Golf Course Drive in Spicewood Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spicewood Volunteer Fire Department or Spicewood Baptist Church.
