OBITUARY: Billy Ray Connally, 86, dies April 5, 2014
Billy Ray “Bill” Connally, 86, passed away April 5, 2014. Bill was born Sept. 7, 1927, to Orie Ulna and Willie (Anderson) Connally in Haskell, Texas, the oldest of two children.
He graduated from Haskell High School in 1945.
Bill served a short time in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged as a seaman second class 1946.
He met his beautiful bride of 55 years, Joanna Honea Connally, and they married in 1946 in Haskell.
Bill began a long career as an electrician, traveling across Texas and New Mexico. He was an electrical contractor in Levelland for more than 25 years until his retirement in 1988.
Bill loved to spend time with his family. He loved being a cowboy, riding horses, bowling and watching baseball. When they were younger, he and Joanna loved dancing.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Joanna; daughter, Sarah Williams; his parents; and sister, Betty Lou Martin.
He is survived by his two sons, Jack Connally and William “Pody” Connally; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is 1 p.m. April 10 at First Christian Church,107 Ave. F North in Haskell, with Randy Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Shane Connally, Freddy Aguirre, T.J. Cox, Matt Dunham, Ben William, Jeff Honea, and Adam Honea. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Martin and Ray Martin.
