Faith Academy girls track places third at Florence Relays

FROM STAFF REPORTS

FLORENCE — The Faith Academy of Marble Falls girls track team was third at the Florence Relays on March 27.

Faith scored 93 points and was the only private school squad in attendance.

“This was a good meet for us overall, but we have work to do,” Lady Flames head coach Steve McCannon said.

Distance runner Sophie McCannon won the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters thanks to sizable leads. She is still undefeated in the 3,200 meters.

“She … has positioned herself to run the table,” said the coach, who is also her father. “She also is handling a 13-lap day well. We will need all she has for the track playoffs.”

The Lady Flames are preparing for the District 3-2A Meet on April 10. Faith competes in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.

“We will not be as deep as years past in all events, so we have to take care of business in our core events,” McCannon said. “We have no margin of error. Everyone will need to step up and throw points in the hopper. I am excited to one degree that any championships we will win will be true team effort.”
