MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls Athletic Booster Club announced two fundraisers it will be conducting in the next few weeks.

First up is the Mustang 5-kilometer and the kids 1-mile runs, which will be held April 26. Part of the course will include Mustang Stadium and Manzano Mile, located near the high school off RR 1431, athletic director Todd Dodge said.

“We want to report (runners’) times to different running websites that keep their stats,” he said. “It’s a good way for people locally and people from the Austin area to run it.”

The other event is the third annual Marble Falls Athletic Booster Club Golf Tournament. This year, it will be conducted June 29 at Slick Rock, which is part of Horseshoe Bay Resort.

“We’re trying to raise money and have more awareness (about the club),” he said. “We need everybody in the booster club to work together. We need to raise more money and get (our athletes) the things they need to compete within (the district.)”

Volunteers and sponsorships are needed. Call Dodge at (830) 798-8345 for more information.

The club’s new president is Marble Falls alumnus Richard Giesecke. The club meets every two weeks. Dodge is inviting sports figures from across the Highland Lakes to speak during the meetings.

Legendary Texas Tech University football coach Spike Dykes and former University of Texas great Doug English have talked about the ways a booster club can help an athletic department and involve the entire community.

Dodge said the meetings are open to anyone who has an interest in Mustang sports. All meetings are free to attend.

“We’re going to have them more often and invite the entire community and try to make it a celebration,” he said, “and bring parents of student-athletes to raise money and have good fellowship.”

The next meeting is 6:30 p.m. March 31 at Julie’s Cocina, 4119 FM 2147 in Cottonwood Shores. Among the items that will be discussed include the fundraisers, selling stadium signs, and reports from coaches of other sports.
