Burnet baseball remains undefeated in district; softball falls to Liberty Hill

LIBERTY HILL — The Burnet High School baseball team defeated Liberty Hill 5-4 on March 21 to stay undefeated in District 8-3A.
The Bulldogs (9-7-3 overall, 2-0 district) trailed 2-1 after the first inning and 3-1 in the fifth.
But they scored four runs in the sixth inning. Colton Barksdale led off the inning with a single, then Jeremy Ayers followed with an RBI triple. Joshua Thompson hit a ground-rule double to score Ayers for the tying run. Alex Melvin hit a single into right field for the game-winning run.
Pitcher Shae Edmonds took over in the seventh inning to clinch the victory.
“He has a lot of experience, and his desire to win matches his ability,” Burnet head coach Stephen Shipley said. “The guys played with a lot of determination and never thought they were out of it.”
The Bulldogs take on Llano, which is also 2-0 in district, at 7 p.m. March 25 in Burnet.

LIBERTY HILL — The Burnet High School softball team lost 3-0 to Liberty Hill in a District 8-3A game March 21.
The Lady Panthers scored a run in the first inning and added two in the sixth. In all, they had nine hits.
Meanwhile, the Lady Dawgs (13-7 overall, 1-1 district) committed two errors.
Burnet got four hits off Liberty Hill junior pitcher Samantha Junkin.
