Buchanan Dam VFD thanking community with fish fry

BUCHANAN DAM — The 15-member Buchanan Dam Volunteer Fire Department depends on the community for support.
Even though the small department stands ready to respond, and does, for emergencies and other events, department officials like to express their gratitude for their neighbors each year with a fish fry.
“We typically have three fundraisers a year, but the fish fry starts it all off,” said department treasurer Tommy Phillips. “But it’s really our way of thanking the community for being there to support us.”
This year’s fish fry is March 22 from 11 a.m. “until the fish runs out.” It will take place at the Red Barn Community Center, 2398 RR 261.
“It’s all by donation,” Phillips said. “Since it’s by donation, we don’t make too much, if anything, so we do it for the community.”
Along with the fish, people can check out all the firefighting apparatus. The department members will have it on display.
“It makes for some great photos,” Phillips said. “We’ll also have the burn trailer out, so we can show people how to use a fire extinguisher.”
The department also recently elected new officers, so folks can stop by and meet them as well.
The fish fry also serves for a great chance for the community and others from the surrounding area to gather, chat and just have a good time.
“We just think this is a great community event where people can gather, meet us and get to know their neighbors,” Phillips added.
