WACO — The Faith Academy of Marble Falls girls basketball team beat Waco Holy Trinity 65-26 on Jan. 28 for its 83rd consecutive district victory.

The Lady Flames (21-4, 6-0) took a 20-6 lead after the first period that went to 40-8 at the half and 57-12 after three quarters.

Reserves took over in the final period.

Lady Flames head coach Jerry English was pleased with what he saw from his players in the first half.

“We have really been trying to work on our defense,” he said. “We haven’t been doing the help defense like its designed. I thought against Holy Trinity, we did some high-quality things in the first half.”

Offensively, he enjoyed the play of junior point guard Taylor Denton, who kept her teammates involved and made solid decisions on when to pass and when to shoot the ball, he said.

After the game, English spoke with Holy Trinity coaches. They thought their team had improved since losing to Faith 54-20 earlier in the season and had hoped to give the Lady Flames a better game in the rematch.

“Our defense shut down everything,” English said.

Offensively, the Lady Flames are attacking the basket and making the most of their opportunities with their high-low game.

The goal is play at the highest level in every contest, he said.

Also on Jan. 28, the Faith Academy boys team beat Waco Holy Trinity 54-44.
