MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School boys soccer team defeated Copperas Cove 2-1 on Jan. 21.

Both Mustang goals were scored in the first half by junior forward Omar Corea.

Before the game, Marble Falls head coach Rick Hoover decided to change up the Mustangs’ lineup.

“I sat seven starters,” he said. “(They) needed a break after a long weekend. (The) subs did a great job.”

Marble Falls (7-2-1) finished second at the Stephenville tournament Jan. 17-18 where they played five matches.

Hoover wasn’t surprised by the outcome against Copperas Cove.

“(The) boys work hard, starting or not,” he said. “They never know when they will have to step up and play the entire game.”

Marble Falls begins the Round Rock tournament 6 p.m. Jan. 23, weather permitting, against Round Rock Westwood. The tournament is at 12400 Mellow Meadow Drive in Round Rock.

On Jan. 24, the Mustangs play Austin Kipp at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex, 10211 W. Parmer Lane in Round Rock, and Dallas Sunset at Dragon Stadium, 620 Lake Creek Drive in Round Rock.

Kipp took second place at the Mustangs’ Winter Classic tournament Jan. 11.

The tournament ends Jan. 25 with Marble Falls playing Austin Bowie at Westwood High School.
