OBITUARY: Colleen Faye (Wood) Oakes, 67, of Kingsland dies Jan. 21, 2014

Colleen Faye (Wood) Oakes was born in July 1946 in Oklahoma City and passed peacefully from this world Jan. 21, 2014, at her home in Kingsland, Texas, with her loving family by her side.
She grew up in Oklahoma City and attended Southeast High School, where she was a cheerleader, a straight-A student, a sister, a daughter and a friend to many.
It was there she met her one true love, Tommy Oakes, and, not long after their love began, they started their family and life journey together. They would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary Feb. 15, 2014. They loved to travel, whether it was to Arkansas for a weekend of fishing or to Scotland to enjoy the rolling hills and pubs. The life they shared together was one of true love, adventure, friendship and respect.
Work and life led them on a wonderful journey for many years, finding themselves in New Mexico and then Texas, where they finally settled down on the Llano River in Kingsland. This was the home where she loved to watch the river flow by and the songbirds and squirrels play in their yard. This was the place where her family gathered to share their love with each other, everyone always telling her how peaceful and at ease they felt in the home she had made.
One of her lifelong passions was to read, and it was rare to see her without a book nearby. She loved to sit and watch the river while she settled down to a good read.
Colleen worked hard her whole life for her family and retired from CH2M Hill in September 2011 after 30 years. She made many lifelong friends there whom she treasured dearly.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy Oakes of Kingsland; daughters, Teresa Adams and partner Pam Nelson of Little Elm and Karen Fair and husband Mackey of Liberty Hill; her most cherished grandchildren, Justin Adams of Estes Park, Colo., Casie Adams of Little Elm and Riley Fair of Liberty Hill; and three great-grandchildren, Kiersten, Kelcie and Karter Adams of Loveland, Colo. She also is survived by her sister Pat Barber and husband Joe of Kingwood. Dear to her were siblings Jim Wood, Pam Swenson, Janice Loria, Brice and Rex Woody; nieces and nephews; and many other cherished family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepmother and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Kingsland Branch Library, 125 Polk St., Kingsland, TX 78639, (325) 388-3170. Please include Colleen Oakes Memorial Fund on the memo line of the check.
