Richard “Rick” Louis Parsons, 68, died Jan. 3, 2014, in Upland, Calif., from congestive heart failure. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 3, 1945.

He married Denise Marie Landtroop on May 30, 1970, in LaMarque, Texas.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ann Parsons, and sister, Mary Duquesnel. He is survived by his wife, Denise; sons, Darren and Kevin Parsons; and four grandchildren, Ian, Blake, Ireland and Ava Parsons.

He graduated from LaMarque High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in behavioral science from California Polytechnic University in Pomona, Calif. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969.

Richard worked for the California Highway Patrol from 1970 to 1984 and left at the rank of sergeant. He served as vice president of Collectors Corner/Art Finds International from 1984 to 1992 and completed his professional career with the Department of Motor Vehicles as the supervising investigator for Internal Affairs. He retired in 2008.

A funeral service is 9 a.m. Jan. 10 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444. Interment is 2 p.m. Jan. 10 at Bluffton Cemetery in Bluffton.

A celebration of life memorial service is 11 a.m. Feb. 1 at Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif., with attendees sharing their favorite stories of Rick, who was known best for his wit.
