KERRVILLE — The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team beat Kerrville Our Lady of the Hills 77-60 on Jan. 7.
Head coach Randy Denton said the Flames’ ability to control the pace of the contest led to the win. It also helped that his players were able to push the tempo and end fast breaks with layups.
“I thought we controlled the tempo with our defense,” he said. “They tried to press us, but we had a lot of easy baskets. Overall, it was a pretty good night.”
He credited the Flames (5-6) for ending many offensive plays with high-percentage shots. But he noted he wants more consistency.
“I think we’re definitely getting better at it,” he said. “We’re getting more confident in what we’re doing. We did finish a lot of fast breaks and press breaks with layups. We made better decisions with the ball.”
Sophomore guard Sam Marrs led the way with 20 points followed by junior post Joseph Woods with 18 points and 10 rebounds and freshman Dylan Bradbury with 11 points
Faith’s win came on the heels of losing four games at the Comfort tournament Jan. 3-4. Denton noted the event drew many Class 3A teams from the University Interscholastic League.
“We saw some really good competition,” he said. “We played well. We’re young, and we have a lot to learn.”
Faith begins District 4-2A play of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools against Temple Holy Trinity at 8 p.m. Jan. 10 at The Fire Pit on the Faith campus, three miles east of Marble Falls off RR 1431.
