Turnovers hurt Marble Falls girls basketball team in 57-50 loss to Del Valle

DEL VALLE — The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team lost 57-50 to Del Valle on Nov. 27 to extend its losing streak to three.

The Lady Cardinals seized control from the start, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 13-8 after the first period and 39-30 at the half.

Marble Falls head coach Chris Jost said Del Valle was “a very experienced and confident group” and featured a player that reminded him of former Lady Mustang Kiara Etheridge.

“She was versatile,” he said. “We couldn’t stop her. She hit 15- to 18-foot jumpers with a hand in her face. We couldn’t get her to give up the ball.”

The Lady Mustangs (5-4) began the third period on an 11-0 run to trim the deficit to 39-36. But foul trouble set in by the final quarter, which led to the outcome.

It didn’t help that Marble Falls had 27 turnovers but only forced Del Valle into 15, though the Lady Mustangs were 17 of 30 from the field.

Marble Falls senior guard Sarah Stripling scored 22 of her 28 points in the second half. She was 11 of 15 from the foul line.

“Every time she didn’t score, it’s because we threw it away,” Jost said.
