New name and grand opening for Burnet Resale Outlet

BURNET — When Sue Chisum and her husband, Jimmy, opened up their store just east of Burnet on Texas 29, they hoped the outdoor flea market setting would entice buyers and sellers alike.
And it did. But the couple soon realized the indoor part of the old Burnet Flea Market was becoming the fastest-growing portion of their business. An expansion opened up more room inside the shop, 2791 Texas 29 West, and people quickly rented areas to sell their goods.
While the outdoor flea market continues to play a role in the business’ success, it’s the indoor section that got the Chisums considering a name change.[box]IF YOU GO

“Flea market just doesn’t describe what we’ve become,” Sue Chisum said.
So they officially changed the name to the Burnet Resale Outlet. The Chisums are holding a new grand opening Nov. 23.
“We want people to come in and see what the store has become,” Chisum said.
The outlet offers spaces for people to rent. They then set up their wares and set the prices. While resale shops might conjure up images of used, worn-out goods, Chisum said many booths offer upscale items, including crafts and custom clothing. At one booth, NASCAR and racing enthusiasts can find numerous model cars of several sizes.
“People come in from all over, even from Austin, to see what he has,” Chisum said.
Collectibles and antiques make up a portion of the shop. There’s a child’s riding tractor, a bit worn, but highly collectible.
“We’ve had some things come in that we didn’t even know what they were,” she said with a laugh. “I’ve seen some things come in that I thought would never sell, but they were gone within a few days. That’s the amazing thing about this shop, you never know what you’ll find.
“And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, wait a few days or a week and come back, it may have shown up by then,” she said.
Chisum said many people drove right by the store when it was called the Burnet Flea Market, maybe a bit enticed but not ready to turn in because of the moniker. However, when those people did stop, Chisum said they were amazed by what they found.
“Flea market really doesn’t describe what we have,” she said.
However, don’t take Chisum’s word for it. The best way to find just what you’re looking for (and maybe some things you never knew you wanted), is to pull in, park and browse the aisles.
“You can have a lot of fun here just looking,” she added. “But buying, that’s even more fun.”
The store is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. It is closed Monday.
