Gift of Music scholarships available for Kingsland area students; deadline is Dec. 27
FROM STAFF REPORTS
KINGSLAND — Youth who are interested in pursuing their musical passions but concerned about the costs should check out scholarship opportunities with The Gift of Music.
The Gift of Music is a scholarship program that provides students from Kingsland and the surrounding small communities, who might not be able to afford lessons or an instrument, with an opportunity to study piano, keyboard, flute, guitar or voice. The scholarship program is accepting applications until Dec. 27 for the spring semester, which starts Jan. 6, 2014.
Scholarships are available for students ages 7-18. Families who receive a scholarship for their child will have reduced fees from 25 percent to 75 percent off the cost of lessons.
Families could pay as little as $20 per month for high-quality, private lessons.
Scholarships are based on three criteria: the family’s household income/circumstances; the student’s motivation to learn; and the family’s support for the youth’s study of music.
Students are given opportunities for performances throughout the year and are encouraged to compete in local, state and national competitions.
“Students who study music find that it is a gift that can be enjoyed for their entire lives,” scholarship officials said.
The program is beginning its second year, and students who receive scholarships will continue to do so as long as they remain eligible.
The Gift of Music Scholarship program seeks funding for support from local donors. The cost to sponsor a student for an entire year of lessons is only $400 under the program. Along with financial donations, the program also will accept donations of keyboards, pianos, guitars, drums and other band instruments.
Scholarship applications may be picked up at Gale Pierce Music Studio, 1977 Skyline Drive. Call (325) 956-9045 for more information or to make a donation.
