SAN SABA — The Burnet High School girls basketball team went 2-2 at the San Saba Tournament on Nov. 14-16.
The Lady Dawgs (4-3) got wins against San Saba, 35-28, and Coleman, 50-41, but lost 55-28 to Wall and 40-35 to Bangs.
Burnet head coach Doug Messer said different players contributed in each contest.
“I think it’s harder to isolate when you have people who can score everywhere,” he said. “When you get three or more, it’s awfully hard.”
Burnet finished the tournament against Bangs on Nov. 16. Messer said fatigue had set in by the last game, and the Lady Dawgs were 12 of 56 from the field and 43 percent from the foul line.

“We were getting the shots, we just weren’t making shots,” he said. “We would have easily won, but our legs were gone by that third day.”
He also was pleased the Lady Dawgs didn’t have too many turnovers, which usually is associated with being tired.
Still, the tournament severed several purposes. The Lady Dawgs got in some conditioning and fundamental work on the court. But, most important, it helped the players to develop bonds, Messer said.
“I think we learned a lot more about each other,” he said. “We do have some returners, and we have some new faces. They have to learn to respect each other. I think we learned a lot about that over the weekend.”
