Work off that turkey with after-Thanksgiving 5K in Kingsland; registration through Nov. 29
FROM STAFF REPORTS
KINGSLAND — After gobbling down all that stuffing, turkey, candied yams, pecan pie and cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving Day, the first thing you want to do the following day is take a run, isn’t it?
Well, you can do just that (and help out a local food pantry) by signing up and joining the fourth annual After Turkey 5K Turkey Trot and Kids 1 Mile on Nov. 29 at the Kingsland Health and Fitness Center, 2132 RR 1431.
The event gets people up and moving after a day of feasting. Plus, what better way to warm-up (or cool down for you early bird shoppers) for a day of Black Friday shopping adventures? The after-Thanksgiving run starts at 7:45 a.m. for walkers with runners taking off at 8 a.m.
Younger enthusiasts can enjoy the Kids 1 Mile at 9 a.m.
Folks registering by Nov. 13 can sign up for $35 for adults (13 and older); after that date, the fee increases to $40.
For children (ages 6-12) the fee is $15. Children 5 and younger on race day can participate free.
A portion of the proceeds benefits the Sharing the Harvest food pantry. Organizers are encouraging participants to also donate a canned good or other non-perishable food item the day of the race that also will go to the food pantry.
