LAMPASAS — The Burnet High School volleyball team’s season ended with a bi-district championship loss to Glen Rose on Nov. 5.

The Lady Dawgs lost 23-25, 16-25, 31-29, 23-25 on Nov. 5.

“It was an incredible match, and I was extremely proud of the girls,” Burnet head coach Salye Coles said. “Every point kept us all on the edge of our seats with long rallies, run-down balls, ace serves and hard-hit kills.”

Only senior hitter Cassidy Connolly had previously played a volleyball postseason game, Coles said.

“Cassidy did a great job helping me explain to everyone what it felt like to be in the playoffs, but, until they actually experience it, it is a hard feeling to grasp,” she said. “The emotion and change of routine is sometimes hard.”

But that wasn’t the case with the Lady Dawgs, she added, noting they “stepped onto the court ready to fight, and fight is what they did.”

Connolly suffered a shoulder injury during the season but was determined to play in the match. She led her team with 13 kills.

Coles said each player contributed positively during the match.

“I can’t say enough about these young ladies,” she said. “I have said all season long how wonderful they are, and they just keep proving me right. They always exhibited pride and were always respectful. It was always an honor to walk into a gym with these young ladies.

“They worked hard to get to the playoff road, and, of course, we would have liked for it to be longer, but the way the season ended was not a bad thing,” she said. “These young ladies left everything they had on the court. Finishing the match the way we did, with the scores that we put on the board, left us hungry for more, and that is exactly how it needs to be in order to keep building the future of champions.”
