Burnet girls cross-country finishes fifth at regionals

FROM STAFF REPORTS

LUBBOCK — The Burnet High School girls cross-country team was fifth out of 24 squads at the Class 3A Region I Meet on Nov. 2.

Two other District 8-3A schools represented the division well. Liberty Hill won the meet with 58 points, while Brownwood was third with 147 points. Burnet had 195 points. The Lady Panthers and the Lady Lions move on to the state meet.

“(Our) team was within two spots of advancing to state. The top three teams from each region go,” Burnet head coach Stuart Dixon said. “It was a good performance for the young team, especially since none of them had competed at the regional meet before.”[tabs style=”default”] [tab title=”BOYS RESULTS”]

Abby Bullock was the top Lady Dawg finisher at 13th. The top 10 individual runners advance to the state meet.

On the boys side, Drew Kiser placed 14th, setting a new personal record at 16 minutes 39 seconds, and Joe Parker was 16th with a time of 16:45 for his season’s best time and 10 seconds from setting a new personal record.

“This is quite an accomplishment considering his abbreviated six weeks of training because of illness,” Dixon said. “We had a very solid year for both the boys and girls and hope to continue to build upon our successes.”
