BURNET — The Burnet High School volleyball team finished third in District 8-3A after sweeping Brownwood on Oct. 29.

The Lady Dawgs won 25-19, 25-21, 25-22. The team will play a postseason warmup match against Bangs on Nov. 2 before a bi-district championship Nov. 5. Burnet’s opponent has yet to be determined.

“They played the best ball I had seen all season,” Burnet head coach Sayle Coles said. “Our defense read the hitters, and our communication was loud and clear. They are so much fun to watch. It was Parents Night, and we recognized our players and their wonderful parents. So we had a few little events that took us out of routine, but it did not phase the girls one bit. We were strong on the service line, and, all-in-all, we just took care of business.”

She credited the seniors for keeping their teammates focused on the task at hand.

Brittney Barksdale “showed great leadership,” Coles said.

Cassidy Connolly recorded a hitting percentage of .474 for the match.

As a team the Lady Dawgs recorded 32 kills, 10 aces, 35 digs and seven blocks.
