Marble Falls girls basketball starts season with close scrimmage against McNeil

ROUND ROCK — The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team tipped off the 2013-2014 season in a scrimmage against Round Rock McNeil on Oct. 26. McNeil won 61-58.
The Lady Mustangs raced to an early 11-4 lead before McNeil used a 21-4 run to build a 39-26 halftime advantage.[tabs style=”default”] [tab title=”PHOTO 1″]

Marble Falls picked up its defensive intensity in the second half, head coach Chris Jost said, forcing McNeil into 18 turnovers. But the Lady Mustangs still trailed 56-45 midway through the final frame.
A late 13-5 charge, finished off by Emily Klingsporn’s 3-pointer with two minutes left, put the Lady Mustangs within striking distance. However, neither team scored again, and McNeil escaped with the win.
Marble Falls senior guard Sarah Stripling dropped in 31 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore post Reann Hall added 12 points and 13 rebounds. Senior post Teagan Hall scored six points and had five steals, senior guard Blanca Fonseca chipped in 10 assists and five steals and senior forward Haley Stephens added six rebounds and five steals.
The Lady Mustangs freshman team beat McNeil by three points, while the junior varsity rallied for a three-point loss after trailing by double digits in the first half.
Marble Falls’ first game of the season is at Copperas Cove, 400 S. 25th St. in Copperas Cove, at 7 p.m. Nov. 5.
