BURNET — The Marble Falls High School girls golf team and two Burnet High School golfers finished in the top three of the team and individual standings at the Burnet Junior Golf Association’s Fall Invitational on Oct. 18-19.

The Lady Mustangs shot a team score of 369-400 – 769 during the two-day event at Delaware Springs Municipal Golf Course in Burnet and The Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.

Meanwhile, junior Burnet golfer Holden Hernandez won the boys tournament with a score of 77-81 – 158, while senior Burnet golfer Lauren Beckwith was third in the girls tournament with a score of 83-89 – 172.

Holden won the event by one stroke in his first victory in a high school tournament.

“That was a great victory for Holden,” association director and coach Stuart Beckwith said. “He played the Class 5A state championship team from Lake Travis and several other 4A and 5A teams in a very strong field. Beating the district golfers from Lampasas and Gatesville was very impressive. Holden has worked hard to improve his game. A great win.”

Other teams competing included Marble Falls, Leander Rouse, Brownwood and Georgetown.

Burnet senior Lauren Beckwith, the director’s daughter, earned a third-place finish on the girls side.

“Lauren struggled on her first nine holes on day two, but showed a lot of courage and determination and had a great finishing nine holes,” the director said.

The was the last association event for the fall golf season. The golfers will be ready for a strong showing in the spring campaign, Beckwith said.
