Marble Falls freshman gold 36, Boerne 6

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School freshman gold football team shut out Boerne High 36-0 on Sept. 26.

The Mustangs recorded numerous turnovers that led to the lopsided victory.

Armond Pierre scored on touchdown runs of one, three and 24 yards, added a two-point conversion and found Isaiah Marichalar for a two-point pass conversion. Cody Machen and Jonathan Abney each had two-point runs.

Chris Despain had two interceptions, one he returned 14 yards for a touchdown. Other interceptions were by Chris Guerra for 33 yards and Marichalar. Jeff Atkison and Marichalar each recovered fumbles.

Marble Falls travels to Cedar Park High at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at John Gupton Stadium, 200 Gupton Way Drive in Cedar Park.

Boerne 21, Marble Falls freshman purple 17

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School freshman purple football team lost to Boerne High 21-17 on Sept. 26.

Kameron Ellenberger recorded an interception, and the Mustangs capped off the ensuing offensive drive with a 23-yard field goal by Gavino Tinajera.

The Marble Falls defense forced two turnovers on downs in the second quarter to preserve a 3-0 halftime lead.

The Greyhounds scored on a 60-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, but the Mustangs regained the lead with four minutes left in the period. That’s when Cade Cool hit Damien Sanchez for a 68-yard touchdown pass. Tinajera added the extra point.

Boerne ended the quarter with a 21-yard touchdown run.

Both defenses took over in the fourth quarter. The Greyhounds recovered a fumble, but the Mustangs didn’t let them score. Instead, Boerne turned over the ball on downs, the first of two turnovers on downs in the quarter.

With 3 minutes 20 seconds left in the game, the Mustangs drove to the Greyhound 20-yard line. But Marble Falls turned over the ball on downs with 28 seconds left, allowing Boerne to run out the clock for the win.

Marble Falls travels to Cedar Park High at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at John Gupton Stadium, 200 Gupton Way Drive in Cedar Park.
