LLANO — The Llano High School football team continues to respond to early adversity.

The Yellow Jackets picked up their second consecutive win of the 2013 season, a 21-17 victory against Bandera on Sept. 13.

Now, they’re looking for win No. 3 but are bracing to face an equally determined Boerne High opponent. The Greyhounds (0-3) are searching for their first win of the season.

“Should be another good game,” Llano head coach Craig Slaughter said. “Need to play well. Would be a great win. They are very balanced offensively.”

Greyhounds quarterback David Snelling has completed 48 passes for 732 yards with five touchdowns and four interceptions and has 45 rushes for 227 yards and two touchdowns.

Bobby Johnson has 21 carries for 67 yards and two touchdowns, while Hunter Lees has caught 20 passes for 397 yards and two touchdowns for Boerne.

The game is 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at Llano Stadium, 400 Texas 71 East.

Llano’s confidence continues to increase. After opening the season with a 31-14 loss to Wimberley, the Yellow Jackets defeated Bangs 21-14 and then Bandera.

Slaughter said his team’s success comes down to a couple of factors.

“Grind,” he said. “Kids just kept working and stayed after it. Defense only gave up one score and forced some turnovers.”

The Yellow Jackets recovered a fumble and had three interceptions.

Llano scored three touchdowns and was able to use two different quarterbacks. The team’s first touchdown pass was to junior athlete Jalen Bauman from senior quarterback Tyler Styles.

Senior running back Carter Tatsch scored the last two touchdowns from one yard and 28 yards out.

Junior quarterback Holden Simpson took over during the first half. He completed seven of 11 passes for 93 yards.

“He did great,” Slaughter said. “Threw the ball more.”
