OBITUARY: Glen Dale Blankinship, 68, of Granite Shoals dies Sept. 13, 2013

Glen Dale Blankinship, 68, of Granite Shoals, Texas, left this earth to be with Christ on Sept. 13, 2013. He was born in Houston on March 29, 1945, to Oran Lee and Ruby (Nettles) Blankinship.
He worked and lived in many different places over the years. Many of those years were in Odessa, Texas.
He worked as a journeyman plumber for much of his life. He was highly respected for his knowledge in that field.
He married Joyce Ann Tiner in 1964, and, together, they raised four children.
Later, he moved to Marble Falls, Texas. He was employed by Burnet Consolidated Independent School District, from where he retired in 2010.
He is survived by his sister Wanda (Ben) Wickliff of Odessa; brother Keith (Deborah) Blankinship of Livingston; the mother of his children, Joyce, and their four children, Lorrie (Jimmy) Norris, Glenda (Kenny) Vardeman, Shelia (Rodney) Fryou and Todd (Jeannie) Blankinship, all of Odessa. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; ex-wife, Jan; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Roy Blankinship and Dub Blankinship; and sisters Nancy Hawkins, Ruby Clark and Carol Humphrey.
He will be greatly and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Glen worked hard his whole life, supporting his wife and children to the best of his abilities. But as anyone could tell you, he had an unending passion for the outdoors. He would rather be off hunting and fishing or tromping around in the woods than anything else.
It had been said of Glen many times that he should have been born 150 years ago, as that time period would have been better suited to his lifestyle. Glen did not meet many strangers. He talked to everyone he met. He was quick to lend a hand and would give the shirt off his back if he felt you needed it more.
A graveside service is 10 a.m. Sept. 18 at Marble Falls City Cemetery with Charles Waugh officiating.
