AUSTIN — The Marble Falls High School varsity volleyball defeated Austin Crockett 25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23 Sept. 6.
“We were excited to go bring home a W,” junior Maddie Johnson said.
Head coach Julie Downs said the long rallies favored the Lady Cougars during the first and second games.
“We fought hard to win but were unable to play consistently and terminate points through hitting,” she said.
Those rallies started turning Marble Falls’ direction in the third and fourth games, she said.
Johnson credited Kelly Copeland for serving several points that propelled Marble Falls to victory and noted sophomore middle blocker Makenzie Carpenter rejected plenty of spikes.
But the most important element is the Lady Mustangs’ unity off the court that’s helped it on the floor.
“The team has bonded a lot this year,” Johnson said. “It helps us a lot on the court to play together.”
