FREDERICKSBURG — The Burnet High School football team lived up to the promise of an exciting season by winning a big road game against Fredericksburg 40-27 on Aug. 30.

Leading 33-27 in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs (1-0) got a late interception by Eddie Medrano on a tipped ball with about 90 seconds left.

Burnet junior receiver Cody Jones scored from 30 yards out on fourth-and-9 with 25 seconds remaining to put the game out of reach.

Burnet led from the beginning. Junior receiver Brock Foster scored on a pass from senior quarterback Derek Kiser from 34 yards. The drive took most of the first quarter. Senior kicker Austin Huff added the extra point.

With the contest tied at 7-7, Kiser found senior receiver Blayne Parisher for an 18-yard touchdown.

Foster caught his second touchdown, this time from seven yards out.

Kiser and Parisher hooked up for a 31-yard touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 27-7 lead, though the Billies scored just before halftime.

Fredericksburg scored with 3:17 remaining in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 27-20.

Burnet senior running back Trenton Hafley added a 17-yard touchdown with 10:28 left in the contest.

Burnet welcomes Rockdale at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 to Bulldog Field, 1000 The Green Mile in Burnet.
