MARBLE FALLS — Marble Falls residents have a chance to say “yay” or “nay” to a proposed aquatics center and an adult soccer field during a Nov. 5 bond election.
Voters get a chance at two propositions. One is for $2.1 million that would be used to build an aquatics center, and the other is for $1 million for construction of athletic fields.
Under the aquatics center bond, officials hope to build a new facility in Johnson Park, located on Avenue J. City Manager Ralph Hendricks said the project would be more than just a pool.
“It is an aquatic center in that it serves more than one group and more than one function,” he said.
Some of the ideas the city is considering for the aquatics center includes a splash park, a wading area for smaller children and a lap function.
“It might have a lazy river concept with it,” Hendricks said.
He added the city hopes to include an enclosed area with the aquatics facility where people and groups could hold parties.
The second proposition would provide money to build an adult soccer field and improve the youth facilities called “The Greens” located at Avenue L and Sixth Street.
Hendricks said the city estimates it would cost about $225,000 for the adult soccer field and about $780,000 for improvements to The Greens and related facilities.
