MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School volleyball team lost to Liberty Hill 9-25, 19-25, 19-25 on Aug. 20.The Lady Panthers wrapped up the first set off of 12 errors by the Lady Mustangs, prompting Marble Falls head coach Julie Downs to remind her players of where they were playing.
“This is not acceptable,” she told her squad. “This is your home court, and you need to represent your fans better.”
The Lady Mustangs put up a better fight in the second game, though Liberty Hill still maintained a lead throughout the set.
In the final game, Marble Falls took a 4-1 lead. But the Lady Panthers responded by taking a three-point advantage.
Down 13-17, the Lady Mustangs rallied behind a block by senior Amanda Thomas, an ace from senior Lacie Long and a dump shot from senior Haley Coulter. That forced Liberty Hill to call its only timeout of the night.
“The last game was better,” Downs said. “We had some good plays.”
She credited Liberty Hill for sticking to what was working, which was forcing Marble Falls to be predictable. The next step for the Lady Mustangs is taking what is practiced and turning that into action on the court, Downs said.
“We did not change what we were doing to adjust to the defense,” she said.
Marble Falls will compete in the Pflugerville Connally Champions Cup tournament Aug. 22 and 24 as the defending champion.
“We have to take it to another level,” Downs said. “We have to get it together and lock in a lineup and see if we can get cohesive with what we do.”
