BURNET — Ryan Jones is the final hire for the Burnet High School football staff, athletic director and head football coach Kurt Jones announced July 22.
The new coach, who just graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, will be the offensive line coach.
Kurt Jones said the newest member of the staff interviewed for the position a month ago.
“We were blown away,” he said. “We couldn’t let this guy leave without offering him a job.”
Ryan Jones was an offensive lineman in college. He is the son of a football coach, and his understanding of the sport and the role of the offensive line is what impressed the Bulldogs staff, Kurt Jones said.
“It’s such a critical position,” the Bulldogs skipper said. “You can gain a certain amount of knowledge through the interview process. For offensive line coaches, you want to put a dry erase marker in someone’s hands and get them talking and familiarize yourself with what coaches are talking about. He blew us away.”
In addition, Burnet and Lamar run some of the same offensive schemes, Kurt Jones said.
Ryan Jones will work closely with assistant head football and wide receivers coach Billy Cook.
He replaces Doug Wilson, who is the running backs coach at Marble Falls High School.
“We’re ecstatic about the coaches we’ve been able to bring on board,” Kurt Jones said. “We’ve been fired up.”
