Spat over ex-girlfriend leads to stabbing, arrest in Horseshoe Bay

HORSESHOE BAY — A fight between two men over an ex-girlfriend sent both to the hospital following an alleged stabbing incident, according to police.
Horseshoe Bay authorities reported the alleged stabbing happened just before 2:30 a.m. on June 9 in an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Hi Stirrup in Horseshoe Bay.
Police found the alleged victim, 23-year-old Kyle Nevills, at the residence with a wound to his side, caused by a 4-inch hunting knife, authorities reported.
He was treated and released from University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin.
The suspect, 22-year-old Jerry Cooper Tripp, fled out the back door, according to the report.
At about 1 p.m. the same day investigators tracked him to Cottonwood Shores, where he was taken into custody.
A number of wounds prompted police to take Tripp to Llano Memorial Hospital, where he was treated, released and taken to the Llano County Jail.
He faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, according to police.
Tripp remains in jail with a $40,000 surety bond.
