Charlsie Williams Wylie, 85, of Sycamore Creek Ranch in Burnet County passed away June 7, 2013, at Granite Mesa Health Center in Marble Falls, Texas. At her side was her husband of 32 years, Roger Wylie.
She is survived by brothers and sister, Wallace D. Williams and wife Beverly of Arlington, Mass., Dan A. Williams of Clear Lake and Wanda B. Williams Poe and husband Jack of Pottsboro; and four children, Charles R. Crouchet of Marble Falls, John A. Crouchet and wife Carolyn of Marble Falls, Janet D. French and husband Bruce of Houston and James T. Crouchet and wife Elizabeth of Buda; stepdaughter, Beth Wylie Shultz and husband Fred of Oriental, N.C.; and dear friends, Ruth Carter and Lori Sears of Marble Falls. Charlsie’s four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren live in Texas.
Born in Jewett, Texas, on Jan. 19, 1928, Charlsie was the eldest child of Charles Theodore Williams and Fonny Agnes McLaughlin Williams. She helped her family by caring for the younger children during her mother’s protracted illness. She maintained a desire and an ability to care for a wide variety of individuals from loved ones to lost animals. She enjoyed gardening and raising roses and delighted in observing nature. She was particularly fond of her miniature poodle, Tiki, and her border collie, Allie.
A child of the Great Depression, Charlsie believed in wasting nothing, including daylight and opportunities. She instilled that value in her children and demonstrated the importance of hard work and careful preparation.
Charlsie had an uncanny knack for evaluating people and situations that aided her career as a project cost accountant for Upjohn Polymer Chemical Research and Development. She rose to be an executive in the chemical industry at a time when women in such positions were rare. She retired in 1981 to travel with her husband, Roger.
Charlsie lived a life of courage and integrity, and her example will leave a lasting imprint on the future.
A memorial service honoring the life of Charlsie Williams Wylie is 10 a.m. June 15 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Juliette Madrigal-Dersch and her staff and all the wonderful people at Granite Mesa who made Charlsie’s final months joyful and comfortable.
