Rain turns best-of-three playoff series into one-game matchup for Marble Falls baseball

FROM STAFF REPORTS

MARBLE FALLS — After a storm washed out Game 1 between the Marble Falls High School and San Antonio Alamo Heights baseball teams May 10, officials decided to turn the best-of-three playoff series into a one-game, winner-take-all contest.

The area-round playoff match now will be played at 3 p.m. May 11 at Shiner High School, 512 CR 348 in Shiner.

On May 9, a tarp was laid over the infield of Scearce Field in anticipation of an overnight storm. But rain started again 5 p.m. May 10 and turned into a downpour by 7 p.m., canceling the game.

The vast majority of the infield was protected, but the outfield was soaked with big puddles forming in right field. Water also drained into the visiting team’s dugout.

In the matchup May 11, Marble Falls senior pitcher Cole Ridgely (12-2-1) is expected to get the start, though neither coach supplied a lineup May 10.

Both the Mustangs and the Mules won bi-district championships, sweeping their opponents the previous week. Marble Falls defeated Austin LBJ, while Alamo Heights beat San Antonio Brennan.
