The lights of her life in her later years were her great-grandchildren, Buford “Trey” and Sydne Steward and Neal D. Watson.
“Sally,” as Ophelia was known to friends and co-workers, was a licensed vocational nurse, a career she practiced through age 85. She was a former longtime resident of the Harlandale section of San Antonio and Sunrise Beach on Lake LBJ, but also resided at various times in Taft, Pleasanton and Livermore, Calif.; Manilla, Philippine Islands; and, while employed with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service: Topeka, Kan.; Lincoln, Neb.; and Fort Worth.
She was an unabashedly patriotic American and proud Texan who, during World War II, briefly worked assembling heavy bomb ordnance at the Bluebonnet Ordnance Plant in McGregor.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Jessica Fritz and Penny A. Balch and the staff and neighbors in the Garden Gate Apartments for their devoted and loving care of Ophelia over the last decade of her life.
