Charlie Ray Hill, 71, of Kingsland passed away April 3, 2013. He was born to Charlie Henry and Lemma Maye (Fails) Hill on Oct. 9, 1941, in San Antonio.

Mr. Hill was a “native son of San Antone.” He fulfilled a lifelong dream when he and his wife, Rose, made the Kingsland-Lake LBJ area their home for 23 years.

Charlie’s vocation was his vacation. He was the food service director at Camp Buckner and Buckner Boys Ranch. There, he served tens of thousands of youths in a Christian environment, and that, along with the friendships he enjoyed and treasured, made these the most rewarding years of his life.

Charlie was a Christian and member of Hill Country Fellowship Church in Burnet. His church family and, especially, Pastor Rodney and wife, Rosemary, were so very special in Charlie’s life. Charlie lived by “the Cowboy Code”: Live each day with courage, take pride in your work, always finish what you start, do what has to be done, be tough but fair, talk less and say more, some things are not for sale, know where to draw the line and “you ride for the brand, you ride for the man” loyalty. Charlie was a true hombre!

He is survived by his wife, Rose Hill of Kingsland; daughter, Sandy (Victor) Votion; sons, Jimmy (Linda) Hill of Kingsland and Chris Akins of Colorado; grandson, Michael Ray (Jill) Hill of Key West, Fla.; granddaughters, Calle Ray Hill of Kingsland and Scarlet Akins of Colorado; great-granddaughter, Jacey Hill; brother, Cliffton (Katie) Hill of Houston; and niece, Alison (Shawn) Smith.

While we mourn our loss here on Earth, we find solace in the knowledge that heaven has a very special addition: Charlie Hill.

Charlie’s family would like to extend their thanks, appreciation and love to Charlie’s many special friends for their support, concerns, assistance, love and prayers during Charlie’s illness. You were more help and comfort to us than you will ever know. God bless you and yours.

A celebration of life service is 10 a.m. April 6 at Hill Country Fellowship Church, 200 Houston Clinton Drive in Burnet, with the Rev. Rodney McGee officiating.

Cremation services by Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. An online guest register may be signed at www.putnamcares.com.
