OBITUARY: Albert David Berry Jr., 90, of Kingsland dies April 1, 2013
Albert David Berry Jr. passed away April 1, 2013, in Kingsland, Texas. A.D., as he was known by friends and family, was born Nov. 3, 1922, in Banquete, Texas, to Albert David Sr. and Ora Ella (Quillan) Berry.
A.D. graduated from Banquette High School in 1941. On Oct. 3, 1942, he married Leona Eugenia Reagan. To this union, two children were born: Ronald Lynn Berry of New Braunfels, Texas, and Cheryl Arlene Berry Balko of Kingsland.
On Feb. 23, 1943, A.D. joined the Army Air Corp (now the U.S. Air Force). He was stationed at Chanute Field Rantoul, Ill.; Salt Lake City, Utah; Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Kearney Air Force Base in Grand Island, Neb. He was discharged on Feb. 20, 1946, at Leavenworth, Kansas.
A.D. was an aircraft mechanic. After his service, he worked as an auto mechanic from 1946 until July 1949, when he joined the Plomo Oil Co. workforce. A.D. then went to work for Tennessee Gas Transmission, which later became Tenneco Oil Co. A.D. worked himself up from a repairman to plant manager of the plant in LaPorte, Texas, where he retired on Feb. 28, 1985, after 30 years with Tenneco Oil Co.
A.D. was a member of LaPorte Masonic Lodge #857 and Kingsland Masonic Lodge #1424. He received his 50-year service award from the Grand Lodge of Texas on June 30, 2011. He loved to cook and throw get-togethers at the plants he worked at for the employees and their families. He liked hunting, photography, bowling and fishing, but his biggest joy came from playing country-and-western music with his guitars and violins with his friends.
A.D. is survived by son, Ronald (Rita) Berry of New Braunfels; daughter, Cheryl A. Berry Balko of Kingsland; grandsons David T. and wife Nichole Redford Berry of Schertz, Dallas Lynn and wife Maggie Clauser Berry of Marion and Bobby Paul Balko of Marble Falls; step-grandson, Dammon R. and wife Lisa Talk Wears of Marion; great-grandchildren, Dillion, Kelsey and Cassidy Berry, all of Schertz, and Aurora L. Berry of Marion; step-grandchildren, Bryce T., Conner S. and Kasi F. Wears, all of Corpus Christi, and Trinity S. Wears of Marion; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; parents; brother, Herbert Berry; sisters, Louise (Woodrow) Schroeder, Janie “Mary Jane” (Calvin) Nichols and Claudine (Woodrow) Coward; nephews Larry Berry and Kenneth Schroeder; and ex-daughter-in-law, Deanne Davis Berry.
A graveside service is 2 p.m. April 4 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park on Park Road 4 in Burnet County. Kingsland Masonic Lodge #1424 and the Highland Lakes Honor Guard will be assisting the Rev. Kenneth Flowers.
