Marble Falls softball gets confidence-boosting win

AUSTIN — The Marble Falls High School softball team’s 3-1 victory against Leander Vandegrift on March 28 went beyond getting a win.
Simply, head coach Tino Salazar hopes it will boost his players’ confidence.
“We were down in the dumps, confidence-wise,” he said. “I think we did better all the way around. Pitching did a lot better.”
But Vandegrift didn’t go away without a fight. In the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Vipers had two runners on base and two outs.
Lady Mustangs junior catcher Amanda Thomas recorded the first out by catching a popup. And freshman pitcher Makenzie Carpenter handled the last two outs with strikeouts.
Salazar said one of his players noted the victory was only by two runs.
“A win’s a win,” he said. “We’ll take it with every thing it offers. We will take it.”
