DRIPPING SPRINGS — Capitalizing on opportunities allowed Dripping Springs to come back for a 7-3 victory against the Marble Falls High School softball team March 22.

The Lady Mustangs raced to a 3-0 lead by the third inning. And that’s when Lady Tigers head coach Keith Tuck went to the circle.

From there on, Dripping Springs was a different team, Marble Falls head coach Tino Salazar said. The Lady Tigers scored seven unanswered runs, and the Lady Mustangs inserted junior Amanda Thomas at pitcher by the fifth finning.

“She kept them off balance,” Salazar said.

The Lady Mustangs attacked the Lady Tigers throughout the first three innings, the coach said.

“(Drippings Springs was) fortunate to get out of the first inning by only giving up one run,” he said.

In all, Marble Falls stranded seven runners.

After the third inning, Marble Falls outfielders dropped three fly balls, and some questionable pitches that were called balls played a factor in the outcome, Salazar said.

“I don’t want to take anything away from coach Tuck and his team,” he said. “I’d like to see what the outcome would have been if we hadn’t shot ourselves in the foot.”

Now the Lady Mustangs turn their attention to important road dates this week against Leander and Leander Vandegrift, two teams that beat them in Marble Falls in the first round.

“This second half (of district) right here is the deciding factor on how our season goes,” Salazar said.
