FROM STAFF REPORTS

LEANDER — The Marble Falls High School boys soccer team defeated Leander 3-2 on March 8.

The win snaps a three-game losing skid for the Mustangs.

Marble Falls was down 2-0 throughout most of the first half.

Senior forward Danny Osornio took a long pass from senior fullback Edgar Aguilar for Marble Falls’ first goal just before halftime to trim the deficit.

Mustangs head coach Michael Nave told his players they had outplayed the Lions in the first half, so they should continue to give maximum effort, and good things will happen.

“We made a couple of mistakes that resulted in goals,” he said. “We played a lot better.”

The team’s second goal came when sophomore Jesse Arreguin knocked in his own rebound. The play started with a pass from sophomore midfielder Irvin Camacho to Osornio, who passed to Arreguin.

The winning goal was from junior midfielder Asir Riojas on a direct kick from 23 yards out.

ON OFFENSE: Goals – Danny Osornio assisted by Edgar Aguilar; Jesse Arreguin unassisted; Asir Riojas

ON DEFENSE: Backup goalie Misael Garcia

QUOTABLE: “There were all kinds of opportunities to quit and give up. That’s just not in their DNA. They played to win the entire game no matter what the score was. I think that says a lot of the character of the team that’s been knocked out of the playoffs to play that way,” Marble Falls head coach Michael Nave said.

RECORDS: Marble Falls is 11-8-2 overall and 3-6-0 in District 51-4A.
