Celebrate Texas in Vegas style at Lake Buchanan-Inks Lake Chamber fundraiser

DANIEL CLIFTON • PICAYUNE EDITOR

BUCHANAN DAM — While Las Vegas wasn’t quite the town it is now at the time of Texas’ independence, the folks from the Lake Buchanan-Inks Lake Chamber of Commerce are combining the two for a big shindig March 2.

“We’re hoping people will wear their classy or fun cowboy garb and Texas-size skirts and come out and have a great time,” chamber board member Carol Adams said. “As soon as they walk through the door, we’re going to make them feel comfortable and welcomed.”

The celebration and fundraiser is themed “Las Vegas Night on the Colorado.” Entry is free, but folks can purchase poker chips to use in the numerous tables featuring Texas Hold’em, Blackjack and craps. With their “winnings,” people can bid in a live auction.

If people don’t have enough luck at the tables to participate in the live auction, Adams said the chamber is sponsoring a silent auction during which folks can place their bids and pay in cash.

Those wearing boots and hats get a chip bonus just for dressing the part.

After the live auction, the party gets a little more interesting
when somebody will win a $500 prepaid credit card in the grand-prize drawing.

“For every $20 you spend on (playing) chips, your name is tossed into the grand-prize chance,” Adams said.

In other words, the more a person spends and plays, the better his or her chance is to take home the prepaid credit card.

The event is 6-10 p.m. at the Hill Country Hall, 15675 Texas 29 East between FM 261 and FM 1431.

Dinner, which features barbecue, is $8 a plate. There will be beer and wineritas at $3 a pop and soft drinks at a buck each.

The iced tea, well, being Texas’ Independence Day, is free.

The night out benefits the Lake Buchanan-Inks Lake Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call (512) 793-2803 or go to www.buchanan-inks.com.
