KINGSLAND — Two people, including a 13-year-old boy, were taken to Austin-area hospitals by helicopter after an ambulance collided with a car at the intersection of RR 1431 and CR 3404, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The collision happened about 1:15 p.m. Feb. 23 as a Llano County Area Emergency Medical Services truck was leaving town transporting a patient to Llano Memorial Hospital, according to DPS.

A 1991 Cadillac Fleetwood was traveling north and waiting to turn onto the Slab Road, when the ambulance, transporting a 90-year-old patient, ran into the back of the car, said Trooper Robbie Barrera, DPS public information officer.

The patient in the ambulance was loaded into another ambulance after the crash and taken to Scott and White Llano Memorial Hospital.

“[The ambulance] was transporting a patient but not in an emergency mode,” Barrera said.

A 13-year-old passenger in the Cadillac was airlifted, treated and released at Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin. A 39-year-old passenger in the Cadillac was airlifted, treated and released from Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.

A 32-year-old passenger in the ambulance was taken to Seton Medical Center-Williamson County with non-life-threatening injuries.
