Marble Falls baseball team wins home-opener against Hutto

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School baseball team defeated Hutto 6-5 in the Mustangs’ home opener Feb. 21.
The Mustangs got a solid effort from senior pitcher Cole Ridgely, who went 4⅔ innings. Until the fifth inning, Ridgely had a no-hitter with nine strikeouts and a 3-0 lead.He started the fifth inning with a strikeout, gave up a double and struck out the third batter he faced. Then, the Hippos showed some life, scoring five runs off two more doubles, a walk and an error to lead 5-3.
Marble Falls junior pitcher Garrett Winslett (1-0) took over for Ridgely in the fifth and gave up a walk and struck out the final batter.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Mustangs got four walks and a batter was hit by a pitch for three runs to take back the lead, 6-5. Winslett was credited with the victory.
“Cole is a warrior, and he deserved to win that game,” Marble Falls head coach J.T. Blair said about Ridgely. “He pitched good enough to win that game. Every time he steps out on the mound, he gives us a chance to win.”
Marble Falls had two hits and stranded eight base runners.
“We have a good hitting team, and, for whatever reason, we had some at-bats where we looked tight,” Blair said. ” … I believe our guys are going to get those big hits. We did a good job of getting on base and put ourselves in position to get the big hit.”
